If I'm a US company that does business in the EU, is there any reason that personal information collection can't just happen through a US web server? That way it is the user who is transferring the data to the US, not the company. Updating your name, birthday and other personal information would take an extra 100 ms in order to POST to the US, but it could then be replicated back out to the EU for reads if necessary for performance.

Wouldn't that be the case of you're paying for a service on us soil from out with the us. Instead of providing a service in a foreign country.
