Don't even bother with this list if you live in Europe. Even a waiting staff with zero education makes more money in Europe than a software developer. So if you lose your job, you will be glad making more money and have more fun contacting other people than sitting all day long at a desk for a penny.


FAANGs/multinationals have offices in Europe. Even more rarely they have them in Asia/Oceania.

Outside that, the happy developers I know are self employed as consultants or own app businesses.

There’s also video game studios around the world in many places other software companies don’t exist. I think this is a very interesting trend but not sure if it pays well.


Game development mostly pays quite poorly in comparison to other software eng, especially when considering the stress level of typical expected unpaid overtime. It’s a buyer’s market: companies have their pick because so many people are passionate about the field.

(You could be a gaming millionaire by e.g. being a very early employee at a studio with a casual mobile gaming hit ten years ago, but those are definitely exceptions.)
