The argument with security research is how do you responsibly deal with the knowledge when people aren't listening? Well, in this case starting a fire to prove there's smoke wasn't the best decision. It takes a lot to admit you were wrong publicly and offer a mea culpa, and a lot to not get disheartened and stop researching.
